Sonia wanted an intimate outdoor session with her husband Michael and their newborn son, Matteo. We started the session an hour before sunset in Caledon, Ontario, at Ken Willians Resource Management Centre a charming space filled with greenery and a small body of water. The environment was dreamy, the late August sunset created a magical light that fell onto the family throughout the photo session. Upon arrival baby Matteo was awoken from his nap, and still sleepy. Sonia and Michael started the session slowly waking Matteo up with cuddles and kisses. As Matteo woke up he continued with his big bright eyes to observe the world around him, showing off all his cuteness for the camera to see.
Sonia wanted to capture natural, intimate moments of the newly family of 3 in an outdoors location surrounded by nature. She loved a recent family session done by me at Stonewell Farms, a beautiful lavender farm located in Caledon, ON and was inspired by the sunset backdrop in this session. Sonia made nature and sunset a must in her family session and I'm glad she did! Summer sunset portrait sessions have become for me, a cherished time to capture intimate sessions. A surprising element within this family session — creating some of my personal and the families favourite images — was the after sunset lighting. Near the end of the photo session the sun had set behind some tall trees at the conversation area, cutting our sunlight time slightly shorter than expected. Fortunately for us, this lighting produced some of the softest, and most dreamy lighting I've ever shot with. Creating the natural, intimate images envisioned.
Below is a gallery of images from this session, some of which have become my personal favourite family portraits taken.
